Barnes & Noble It is extremely rare that a show, introduced near the end of the network season, achieves phenomenal success; yet Threes Company, based on the British series Man About the House and hurried onto the ABC schedule in March 1977, caught on quickly and became one of TVs top-rated shows for several years running. John Ritter portrayed Jack Tripper, a culinary student who happened upon the scene just as Janet and Chrissy (Joyce DeWitt and Suzanne Somers) were in need of a roommate, ideally one who could cook. In order to get this arrangement over with the landlord, though, the trio had to pretend that Jack was gay (it was a very different time, kids). The charade called for lots of mincing about by Jack in front of Mr. and Mrs. Roper (Norman Fell and Audra Lindley, and added layers of weirdness to the sexual double entendres that were the shows stock-in-trade. The six episodes collected here aired on Thursday nights at 9:30 in the spring of 77. In memory of series star John Ritter, Anchor Bay Entertainment will be donating a portion of its sales proceeds to United Cerebral Palsy, a charity he had long supported. I am glad that it is finally out on DVD. Its too bad it had to come out after John Ritters death. He was truly a comedic genious. The supporting cast is also terrific. Joyce DeWitt is a great actress in my opinion. The chemistry between her and John Ritter is evident in these episodes. Threes Company is one of the funniest sitcoms of our generation. I can say this because Im a big fan of sitcoms, particularly old school sitcoms. Just buy the DVD!!! Its worth it.A reviewer, A reviewer, November 14, 2003 ONE OF MY FAVORITE COMEDIESThrees Company is one of my all time favorite shows. i was excited to hear that it was released on DVD. I watched it growing up as a kid, and can never get tired of watching it in reruns. John Ritter can always make me laugh. I was shocked when I heard about his passing, and I will never forget him. He will continue to make me laugh with this DVD, and look forward to the release of season 2.Also Recommended: Friends (seasons 1-5),Cheers (season 1),MASH (seasons 1-4)Kate, A reviewer, November 7, 2003 Threes CompanyI have been a fan of this tv wonder for a while now and i think that people should get it for numberous reasons. I think it would be so touching if many people buy this and it makes a great donation to a Cerebral Palsy fund. It would be a great way to show appretiation to the Ritter family and im sure its what John wouldve wanted. For another great reason...the show is positively humerous. For someone like me who enjoys poetry and photography to laugh so much at this show is great. Im looking forward to the next seasons release.ZAlan mandel (amandel007@optonline.net), A reviewer, October 27, 2003 THIS IS REAl COMEDY!Jack lived with two women in this sitcom series and it is real slapstick like the old Three Stooges series so you will not be able to stop your laughing!
