Barnes & Noble Among the unique aspects of the X-Files phenomenon -- and one easily tracked in this follow-up to the First Season and Second Season Collectors Editions -- is the undeniable fact that this superb program gets better with age, rather than collapsing in upon itself, Twin Peaks style. Here, we see the consistently solid characterizations of David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully) growing through layers of nuance. Likewise, the programs expanding ensemble of conspirators, theorists, and otherworldly beings rarely falls shy of excellent. With solid writing week after week, X-Files creator/executive producer Chris Carter deepens the programs considerable lore in episodes such as the two-part mythology extravaganzas "Nisei/731" and "Piper Maru/Apocrypha." Of course, the third season also delivers some fantastic monsters, such as "Oubliette" and "Pusher," the latter of which features the villain Robert Patrick Modell, a villain who ranks with the Smoking Man in some fans minds. This seven-DVD set features all the third seasons 24 episodes, plus a full disc of extras, which include the new documentary "The Truth About Season Three," several interviews with Carter, deleted scenes, and so much more that its practically unbelievable -- although its true.
