Barnes & Noble Before Dorothy found herself over the rainbow, there was a friendly circus lion who just wanted to be brave. This sometimes cowardly lions solo adventure has been chronicled in this animated prequel to The Wizard of Oz," based on the book "The Lion of Oz and the Badge of Courage" by Roger S. Baum. Lynn Redgrave cackles with relish as the voice of the Wicked Witch of the East, who compels Lion (Jason Priestley) to find for her the mythical Flower of Oz -- "a symbol of all thats good" -- so she can destroy it. Along the way, Lion meets many enchanting characters, including a kind young girl named Wimsik (Jane Horrocks), a doll (Kathy Griffin) and a springy toy bear (Bobcat Goldthwait). Tim Curry is literally the voice of Gloom, a foggy spectre, with Dom DeLuise as balloonist Oscar Diggs, who befriends Lion before his storm-tossed balloon is blown toward the fabled Emerald City. The ending is sure to bring a smile, as Lion spies a familiar trio walking down the Yellow Brick Road and prepares to try out his roar on them.
