The third Inspector Lynley series, which aired during the summer of 2005 on PBS in the U.S., begins with Detective Barbara Havers (Sharon Small) being demoted after an incident in which she assaulted a fellow officer. But her partner, Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley (Nathaniel Parker), persuades Deputy Chief Inspector Webberley (David Burke) to allow Havers back onto the case of an apparent bludgeoning in "In Pursuit of the Proper Sinner." Havers and Lynley are called away from Webberleys anniversary party in "A Traitor to Memory" to track down a hit-and-run driver who killed a woman -- and then ran over her several times. In "A Cry for Justice," Havers and Detective Slaven (Al Weaver) discover a womans body. It seems she committed suicide, but Havers feels something is wrong and calls for further investigation, which leads to a son the victim had given up for adoption years earlier. And in the last Lynley telefilm of the set, "If Wishes Were Horses," Lynley and Havers investigate a case involving the death of Dermot Finnegan (Oliver Cotton), an old mentor of Lynleys wife, Helen (Lesley Vickerage), leading to a cliff-hanger ending with Haverss life in the balance.
