 Barnes & Noble If you thought youd seen the last of Colonel Jack ONeill after director Roland Emmerichs 1994 blockbuster Stargate, you were sadly mistaken. In the able hands of creators Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright (Outer Limits), Stargate has become a thriving television enterprise, consistently offering up imaginative plotlines and old-school sci-fi entertainment. Colonel ONeill (played with charismatic flair by MacGyver star Richard Dean Anderson) leads Air Force Team SG-1 through a series of interstellar portals, or "Stargates," keeping the galactic balance in check as they sail through time. Two of the second seasons finer hours are "Thors Hammer," in which ONeill and his crews battle with the Goaulds leads them to Cimmeria, home of the Norse Gods; and "Within the Serpents Grasp," the season finale, which finds SG-1 cruising at the speed of light aboard an enemy craft, unable to return to Earth as an alien invasion looms. This five-disc set compiles all 21 episodes from Stargates sophomore run and is a formidable follow-up to the shows breakthrough season. Until about a year ago, when I started watching it when was on the same night as the new Battlestar Galactica. I quickly realized how much I was missing. And the best part is, because of these DVDs, I can catch up on it all straight from the beginning. Ive bought the first couple of seasons now, and cant wait to keep going.
