Barnes & Noble This is not Sports Center. The widely hailed sitcom Sports Night -- like so many shows that are perhaps too good for television -- fell short of network ratings expectations. But the series lives on in this wonderful six-disc DVD collection, containing every episode from the shows two-year ABC run. Loosely reimagining ESPNs signature nightly news program Sports Center, Sports Night scored not just with lighting-fast behind-the-scenes repartee but also with serious perspectives on sport and sportsmen. Created by Aaron Sorkin, the previously unheralded leads include Josh Charles and Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) as the show-within-the-shows co-hosts, and Felicity Huffman as the programs spitfire of a producer. What I enjoyed the most about the show (that other reveiws failed to mention) is the incredible use of symbolism thoughout the series. Some of the all-time greatest writting on Television... too bad Main stream America never figured that out.Daniel Neimeyer, bookseller, student, percussionist, March 8, 2004 Your watching Sports Night on CSC, so stick around!Wow. I started watching the show in sindication on Comedy Central. What a great show. The writing, acting, comedy. Simply spectacular. This was the show that prompted me to watch The West Wing, another brobdingnagian successful series. Thank you Aaron Sorkin!!Also Recommended: The West Wing, The American President, A Few Good Men, Malice, DaveEd (ewilfong@mindspring.com), husband, psychologist & puppy dad, February 19, 2004 Best TV ever, even after I wore out discsThis show failed for several reasons - it was intelligent, funny, touching, dramatic. It was brilliantly written and acted. Its humor came from life, not the typical comedy formulae of deceit, lying, cruelty and the other sit-com comedic hallmarksAlso Recommended: It is its own genre. Maybe The Bob Newhart Show, M*A*S*H. More like a brilliant movie than TV.A reviewer, A reviewer, February 13, 2004 Best of the best.I reluctantly bought this set for my husband. Initally I had no interest in watching it but within the first ten minutes of the first episode I was hooked. It is without a doubt the best comedy series ever to air. The writing is amazingly clever; its sophisticated rather than silly. The wit and charm written into each character is delightful. Each character is perfectly cast. This is an amazing ensemble of actors and actresses with impeccable timing and skill. How can you not only love Dana, Casey, Danny, Natalie, and Jeremy, but the rest of the supporting cast who deliver first rate performances equal to the primary players. It was a sad day when we watched the final episode knowing there were no new episodes to follow.A reviewer, A reviewer, December 31, 2003 I miss you guys! One of the best shows ever on television, and it is gone. I so enjoy watching the shows and laughing over jokes that arent really jokes, and admiring the incredibly taut and smart writing. Only one complaint about this set: why oh why was a laugh track added? I know what is funny and when to laugh; the laugh track is distracting.
