Eddie Murphy began his brief but rich tenure on NBCs Saturday Night Live in 1980, the year widely regarded by fans as marking the venerable programs nadir, following the departure of series creator Lorne Michaels and any remaining members of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players. Amid the disasters of that desperate season, the 19-year-old comic from Roosevelt, Long Island, quickly stood out, advancing from featured performer to star status by years end. In three seasons, he created a stable of characters that remain among the series all-time favorites. He was Gumby (dammit!), Buckwheat, Little Richard Simmons, and the host of Mr. Robinsons Neighborhood. As James Brown, he invited you into his hot tub. And as convict Tyrone Green, he promised to "Kill my landlord. C-I-L my land lord." The DVD edition of Murphys best SNL bits includes these and more, plus outtakes and bloopers that are not included in the original VHS release. Customer ReviewsWrite your own online review >
