Barnes & Noble The DVD rollout of Star Trek’s third spin-off bodes well for devoted fans, as the five-disc set arrives with the 15 Season 1 episodes (presented for the first time in Dolby Digital Surround Sound) plus a plethora of special features. Foremost among these is the never-before-seen footage of original star Genevieve Bujold, who relinquished the role of Captain Kathryn Janeway to Kate Mulgrew before Voyager left Paramount’s dry dock. The first episode, "Caretaker," establishes the series premise: Janeway, commander of the Starship Voyager, attempts to mediate a conflict between the Cardassians (new signatories to a Federation treaty) and the rebellious Maquis. Both the Voyager and a Maquis ship are catapulted through space and wind up in the unexplored Delta Quadrant, a 75-year journey from home even at maximum warp speed. Federation and Maquis crews alike are thus compelled to join forces in an attempt to somehow find their way home. Supporting Mulgrew are Robert Beltran (as First Officer Chakotay), Roxann Biggs-Dawson as BElanna Torres, Robert Duncan McNeill as Lieutenant Tom Paris, Ethan Phillips as Neelix, and Robert Picardo as the Doctor. The first-season episodes develop these characters and delineate some of the interpersonal conflict theyll face as the series unfolds. Mulgrews Kathryn Janeway is an intriguing lead -- decisive, resourceful, stoic, yet also nurturing and protective. Shes both the shows narrative hub and emotional core. Superficially similar to the other Star Trek series, Voyager quickly establishes its own dynamic, as you will see in such outstanding shows as "The Cloud," "Eye of the Needle," "Jetrel," "Emanators" (an especially provocative and mildly controversial episode dealing with death and the livings reaction to it), "Time and Again," and the engrossing season finale, "Learning Curve." Voyager provides a sense of family and gives excellent character development throughout the series. Truly unique, with an excellent and creative story line. Also Recommended: Star Trek: Deep Space Nice, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Event HorizonTrekgirl, obviously, a major Trek fan, January 28, 2004 Something Every Trekie Should Enjoy!Despite the fact Im a loyal TNG fan, in my opinion this series ranks just as high. Unlike DS9 it does not try to force left wing issues and most of the episodes can be watched by young children without problems. Also Recommended: Star Trek TNG epiodes and all Star Trek Movies made up to this point (Lets all hope they never make a DS9 Movie!)A reviewer, A reviewer, January 28, 2004 By far this is the best series in the star trek franchisehopefully they will do the entire series on DVD, it was impossible to get the entire series on video!Craig, a lover of Treks, esp. Voyager., January 11, 2004 The Best Ever TreksVoyager should still be on TV. Its the best Star Trek ever. I have this first season and my family watch them over and over. They all are good, each has a special story and you get to see all the characters in a role on each and all do well. I reccommend this with five stars and thumbs up.Also Recommended: some of best is: Rise, Investigations, Basics-Part 1 & 2, Caretaker 1 & 2, and theres so many good ones, we like.A reviewer, A reviewer, January 9, 2004 High Cost of Star Trek VideosI just really want to know why the Star trek Brand of videos think that they have to command such a high price for themselves, when other series that are just as good can come in at decent lower prices? Also when there is a first season that only has 16 eps in it, why should it cost as much as the ones that have 22 or 23 eps such as the DS9 series? Way to squeeze every last nickle out of the consumer Star Trek!! Your prices are too high even at the discount stores therefore I have never bought the Star Trek videos. I have however bought many other TV series, such as X-Files, Buffy, Angel, Highlander. Yours are too expensive compared to these others. Interested in the song lyrics? - Check out themostlyrics.com!
