During the fall of the Tokugawa regime in Japan, one swordsman led the way into the Meiji Era, leaving a trail of carnage behind him. People throughout the country feared this man and called him Battousai, or the Manslayer. However, as the Meiji imperialists rose to power, the Battousai mysteriously disappeared without a trace. Stories of the red-haired samurai with an X-shaped scar on his cheek spread, and the Battousai became a legend. Now, 15 years into the Meiji Era, a wandering samurai fitting the Manslayers description has appeared in Kyoto. Wielding a reverse-blade katana, the wanderer calls himself Kenshin; he has not only relinquished the name of Battousai but has also given up killing, embarking instead on a quest for peace and inner solitude. Finding a new home at the Kamiya School of swordsmanship, the wanderer gains the friendship of the assistant master of the school, the lovely Kaoru, as well the trust of many of the townspeople. As this reformed killer looks for a place within an increasingly Westernized Japan, he ultimately protects his new friends against the returning evils of the past and the corruption of the present the only way he knows how -- with his sword. The third Rurouni Kenshin collection includes episodes 9-12, "The Strongest Group of Ninjas," "Aoshi," "Fare Well, the Strongest Men," and "The Birth of a Boy Swordsman." The artwork and color are incredible. The stories have value for the times we live in. The real beauty of the work is showing that war destroys and the characters are all able to build and believe again. I like the idea that Kenshin has to fight his demons and no matter what he wins. Also Recommended: Loved :Handsome Samuri, episode one and the last few episodes about the feng shui threat.A reviewer, I am Kenshin Himuras #1 fan!, January 5, 2004 Rurouni Kenshin is the best!A highly recommended Anime series.
