Barnes & Noble Through the effort of online fans, the teen angst-cum-sci-fi drama Roswell survived into its third and final season with a jump to the UPN network from The WB. And while the 18-episode third season includes some truly great episodes that retain the original feel of the previous two seasons, several others simply dont meet Roswells high standards. Through most of Season 3, star-crossed lovers Max (Jason Behr) and Liz (Shiri Appleby) -- whose romance has been the focus of the show -- have been torn apart by their parents, who have forbidden them from seeing one another. Lizs best friend, Maria (Majandra Delfino), has moved on from her long romance with alien Michael (Brendan Fehr) and, in "Behind the Music," embarks on a music career. And Isabel (Katherine Heigl), formerly levelheaded and cautious, has begun a secret romance with Jesse (Adam Rodriguez), an attorney in her fathers firm: The lovers marry in "To Have and to Hold," although the new groom remains unapprised of his bride’s alien powers. By midseason, Roswell hardly resembles the show of the past: In "Ch-Ch-Changes," Liz discovers she needs distance between her and Max and heads to boarding school in Vermont, while Maria leaves New Mexico for a singing career in New York; and in "Panacea" and "Chant Down Babylon," Max is forced to heal a dying man, but his soul somehow becomes lost within the mans body, leading Michael to assume leadership of the alien trio until Max mysteriously returns. Making up for these missteps are the highlights of the season, which include: "Samuel Rising," a heartwarming outing in which Max uses his powers to heal children dying of cancer; "Four Aliens and a Baby," wherein Tess (Losts Emilie de Ravin) returns and makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect her and Maxs newborn son; and fans can be glad creator Jason Katims had a hand in writing "Graduation," the series finale, which wraps up Roswell in a satisfying way.
