Barnes & Noble The breakout star of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour and the bestselling CD Drunk in Public, Ron White is a craggy-faced Texan whose bawdy stand-up act plays to packed houses everywhere he performs. Image’s DVD shows this redneck Rabelais at his best, rantin’ and ravin’ and cussin’ up a storm. White’s humor is often coarse and decidedly unsubtle, but sometimes it’s remarkably perceptive and witheringly accurate, especially when he pokes fun at the upper classes. Fashionistas, for example, take a drubbing in this one-man show, especially in White’s spot-on poke at posers with penchants for designer sunglasses. He’s especially blunt when it comes to the sexual proclivities of men; and viewers who prefer less earthy comedy would be advised to go elsewhere. White isn’t just a joke teller, rattling off a succession of one-liners in staccato fashion; like many southern humorists, he’s a born storyteller, and this disc features some of his best extended bits, including a lengthy diatribe about his ex-wife and her family and his relationship with a crazy cousin. Nobody will ever confuse Ron White with Oscar Wilde, or even Mark Twain, but he’s a humorist who’s every bit as contemporary and a darn site more provocative.
