Ever since the landmark anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion wrapped in 1996, fans and creators alike have been looking for the next big thing in the postmodern post-apocalyptic giant robot genre. RahXephon has all the Eva touches down pat: moody adolescent mecha pilots, massive conspiracies set in motion by mysterious organizations, and a penchant for pregnant pauses and religious symbols. But for all of this, RahXephon also throws plenty of curve balls, boasts an intriguing cast of characters, and keeps the quality high enough to be recommended purely on its own merits. The story follows a 17-year-old boy, Ayato Kamina, who merges with a godlike humanoid super-weapon (the titular RahXephon) and uncovers the shocking truth about the seemingly normal Tokyo where he lives. The DVD Collectors Box includes the first RahXephon DVD, featuring the series first five episodes, plus a T-shirt and a deluxe box designed to hold future RahXephon discs. Its sorta confusing at first, but when the plot unfolds, it attcually very good. I cant wait for the 3rd one in July! Also Recommended: EvangelionA viewer Well, its NGE-clone alright....I cant really give the series a high mark because the plot, subplots, characters are all taken from the pages of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The story lacks imagination. To me, the only interesting part is the music, but everything else is almost plagiarism. There are plenty of loose ends starting in the middle of the series, and it basically cant convey what the producers are trying to tell the viewers. No, I am not wearing an EVA baseball cap as I write my review, but I just cant help make comparison between the two. Also Recommended: Ninja Scroll
