Those anticipating a letdown after Queer as Folks acclaimed debut season will be pleasantly surprised by its sophomore effort, as the Showtime series builds on its oversexed, envelope-pushing form. Justin (Randy Harrison) begins a difficult recuperation from the savage attack that occurred at the end of the first season, and Brian (Gale Harold) curbs his libidinous ways as he waits for his lover to sift through the physical and emotional aftermath. Emmetts (Peter Paige) stand-in appearance on Teds (Scott Lowell) failing porn site leads to sudden star status, and he earns a coveted "Crystal Dick" award from the Academy of Pornographic Arts & Sciences for his "work." Meanwhile, Melanie (Michelle Clunie) and Lindsay (Thea Gill) become convinced that their son, Gus, has been refused entrance to an elite school because theyre lesbians. Michael (Hal Sparks) has regained life focus by coming up with the concept for a gay superhero with Justin, and they prepare for a highly publicized launch by seasons end. This six-disc box set includes all 20 episodes from the shows second season, plus more than three hours of bonus footage, including "The Making of Rage, Gay Crusader," outtakes, and "A Week in the Life of Queer as Folk." For QAF fans, this is a worthy follow-up to the first season. Customer ReviewsWrite your own online review >Number Of Reviews: 4 Average Rating: Anthony Moore (Tonyshistory1988@Yahoo.com), a gay High School student, September 15, 2005 Just When You Thought There Was No Good T.V. Left...In its sophomore season, Queer As Folk has captivated its audience in the first season with gay mens first times, to drug problems. After the cliff-hanger of the previous season, Justin (Randy Harrison) had been bashed in the head with a baseball bat by a fellow student at his Senior Prom. Michael (Hal Sparks) was about to leave with his boyfriend for Oregon, but got a phone call that justin had been hurt, so rushed to the hospital. Ted (Scott Lowell) and Emmett (Peter Paige) had just left a rehab clinic where teds twinkie boyfriend had released himself from. As for Brian (Gale Harold), He actually showed emotion for the first time in the shows "Highly Cinematic" Season Finale. This show has explored themes that no other show has dared to do such as AIDS, Drugs, First Times, and Coming Out. In its second season, Queer As Folk continues to Push The Envelope like never before. Also Recommended: The L Word, A Home at the End Of The World, A Touch Of Pink, Lost Season 1, Roseanne Season 1, Degrassi The Next Generation Seasons 1-2, SO! Graham Norton, Friends, Edge of Seventeen.Lynn Ray, A reviewer, August 15, 2005 Keeping it Real in PittsburgI am totally impressed with the writing, the depth of characters and the no holds barred realism of life of people in general. I enjoy this series, and I hope Showtime realizes what a gem they have and keep the series for several more years. One more thing... these men are so hot, even straight women love them! Also Recommended: L Word Deadwood and Without a TraceA viewer (milindoe@aol.com) Wouldnt it be nice if Barnes and Noble got the actors names right too?The character Justin is played by Randy HARRISON, not TAYLOR. TAYLOR is Justins last name. Unfortunately, it doesnt lend much credence to B&Ns review. Suffice it to say that if you get involved in this series, youll be hooked for the duration. I just think that the unfortunate portrayal of homosexuals as promiscuous drug users is unfortunate because there are some really good messages in this show if you cant get past all the stereotypes.A viewer Too bad Barnes and Noble doesnt price it competitivelyExcellent season, excellent DVD set. Enjoyed it just about as much as the first season. Unfortunately, you can get it for 25% cheaper at a ton of stores like Best Buy or Media Play.
