Barnes & Noble A tender drama that combines the sensibilities of Harlequin romance novels and European art films, Passion of Mind allows its hard-bodied, hard-edged star to display her softer side. Demi Moore plays two women -- or, rather, one woman with two sides. As Marie, she lives in France with her two fatherless children and her mother and is courted by kindly writer Stellan Skarsgaard; as Marty, she makes New York her home and enjoys a relationship with accountant William Fichtner. She realizes that one of these existences is real and the other just a dream...but she cant tell which is which. Director Alain Berliner captures the charms of both locations with deceptive ease, and Skarsgaard and Fichtner provide Moore with admirable suitors. But ultimately the film rests on Demis shapely shoulders, and her performance demonstrates that shes more than equal to the task of assuming that burden.
