 Barnes & Noble The Osbournes began with a brilliant idea: Reinvent the family sitcom as reality TV cross-bred with This Is Spinal Tap. But not even MTV expected it to be an overnight sensation, despite (or perhaps because of) all those bleeps. As "The Dad," bat-chomping Ozzy Osbourne won viewers hearts from the get-go, enduring Everyman struggles with tricky remotes, sex-crazed pets, and his recalcitrant teens, Jack and Kelly. Even his rock-star problems played out like domestic disputes, such as when his wife suggested he tour with a bubble machine: "Cmon, Sharon, Im the Prince of @#%$!# Darkness!" By the time Season 2 rolled around, The Osbournes had become such an institution that Ozzy and Sharon dined at the White House. Theyd also been hit by the reality of Sharons colon cancer. This two-DVD set includes all 10 shows from the debut season (plus four bonus episodes) and takes you back to the age of innocence when the biggest issue the clan faced was how to get rid of Jacks smelly skateboard buddy Dill. Its also an Ozzy-appropriate orgy of extra features. One can "match the doggie to the dookie," decode the masters mutters with the "Ozzy Translator," and use set-top features to edit scenes, for openers. And though Season One itself often played like one big blooper, it turns out that what aired was just the tip of the iceberg. You aint seen nothin till youve seen this discs "Too Oz for TV" reel. We metalheads already knew about Ozzy and how funny he and his family was, now the whole world knows about it, and Im glad they do. Its refreshing to see a show like this, I think half the fun of watching it on MTV is the bleeps, but yeah, uncensored is better! I love the pets, I think theyre hysterical, and Lola has got to be one of the funniest dogs ever! Cant wait til season 2 comes out! The smart, witty fights put on between jack & kelly, and the timeless everlasting aughs of sharron and Ozzy are great. This is truley a better made DVD.
