Barnes & Noble Brad Andersons Next Stop Wonderland is an incredibly tender, likeable romantic comedy -- with most of the emphasis on romance. Hope Davis is Erin, a night nurse and Harvard Med dropout who is dumped by her Marxist schlump of a boyfriend (Philip Seymour Hoffman, in pre-"Indie It Boy" form) and has a slightly overstated personal ad taken out on her behalf by her well-meaning but meddling mother (Holland Taylor). In the avalanche of would-be suitors that follows, Erin meets a broke, good-natured plumber (Alan Gelfant) studying to be a marine biologist, and the two embark on a leisurely will-they-or-wont-they collision course. Anderson and Lyn Vauss script is low-key and talky, but their collective ear for dialogue is dead-on. Nothing stilted here. But the best thing about Next Stop Wonderland is Hope Davis, beautiful in a reserved way, quietly charming, and very smart: the sort of girl well-worth making a movie about.
