Since 1979, the name Mobile Suit Gundam has been synonymous with high-quality giant robot animation in Japan. Yet outside of anime devotees, few Westerners had ever seen or heard of the long-running franchise. This changed dramatically when Cartoon Network broadcast the 49-episode series Gundam Wing in 2000, quickly indoctrinating a host of new converts into the considerable charms all things Gundam. After a long battle, a fascist new-world order has seized control over the independence-seeking orbital space colonies circling the Earth. Five teenage guerrilla soldiers are equipped with robotic "Mobile Suits" and are sent to Earth to take out the terrestrial government. They succeed, but only to see more ambiguous battles emerge between various power-seeking factions. Set in an alternate universe from the classic Mobile Suit Gundam series, Gundam Wing keeps the spirit of the original very much alive; the attention to political intrigue and the moral quagmire of war remain true to form. The major change from the older Gundam shows comes in the form of the five young, hunky protagonists, who have an unmistakable boy-band appeal -- despite technically acting as galactic terrorists. Bandais Gundam Wing Complete Operations Collection contains all 49 episodes on ten top-notch, bilingual DVDs. The animation and plot (I think) are also some of the better ones, really giving us a view of what its like when many groups are viing for power and are willing to go to exreams to get it. I love Gundam Wing and the movie Endless Waltz is also done very well. Also Recommended: Endless Waltz and all Operations associated with Gundam Wingmike, a lover of great anime, January 2, 2004 best of the bestgundam wing is my favorite of all of the gundam series. it is a series that can relly capture your imagination. what i really like about the series is how in depth they go into detail and the storyline. the only shame is that cartoon network has announced that they will nolonger show that particular series of gundam and a couple of other series, after 9/11 (quote):*beceause it depicts a horrible future where the world is at war.) personally i think that is stupid because out of all people, you would think that the people at cartoon network would remember that it is a fictional tv serries, and not to be taken seriously. but all in all i think that everyone should see the series at least one because it is the best of the best. Also Recommended: inuyasha, cowboy bebop, trigun, and ruroni kension wandering samuriMandi, a fan of complex plots and comedy. Gundam Wing is a must seeWing takes you straight into war. You see the political side and the fighting. Its an emotional roller coaster as you learn about each character and their struggle to save their homes- the earth and the colonies alike. Also Recommended: Cowboy Bebop InuYasha Outlaw StarA viewer a few thoughtsGundam Wing, is or may be the best in the series of Gundam. Although it was not noted, until cartoon networks ventures, Gundam Wing has had a great adience. One thing is cretain though, Cartoonnetwork has proven that, Gundam Wing stands along Neon Genesis evangelion, and Trigun, I would recomend this series for any fan of well plotted story lines, and great anime.
