 Barnes & Noble What might have been a run-of-the-mill action/buddy flick becomes a wildly entertaining offbeat comedy thanks to wonderful performances by Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. In a film that is essentially one long chase, BEVERLY HILLS COP director Martin Brest provides plenty of suspenseful and spectacular action sequences involving planes, helicopters, trains, and automobiles. But its the chemistry between odd couple DeNiro, playing a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter, and Grodin, a fussy accountant who embezzled millions from the mob, that makes this movie shine. As DeNiro attempts, for a hefty fee, to deliver Grodin from New York to L.A., dodging both the bloodthirsty mob and the FBI, he discovers that the "airplane-phobic" accountant is more of a handful than he bargained for; he and Grodin also discover that they have much more in common than they could ever have imagined. The result is an action movie that transcends its genre, becoming a funny and affecting story about an unlikely friendship.
