This documentary, originally broadcast in 1996 on the Disney Channel, catches a historic moment for Springsteen fans. Not since Born in the U.S.A. had the Boss recorded with the E Street Band, but in the winter of 1995, he convened them with three days notice to lay down some new tracks for his then-upcoming greatest hits compilation. While unusually hasty for him, the sessions nevertheless yielded some characteristically strong material, especially in the rough, stark love song "Back in Your Arms Again" and the Woody Guthrie homage, "This Hard Land." His rapport with longtime bandmates seems to transcend time, and director Ernie Fritz also catches the looser moments, like Springsteen serenading his brood or noshing out of a peanut butter jar. Though running for the same 85 minutes as the VHS edition, the Blood Brothers DVD boasts a terrific surround- sound mix and access to Springsteens dramatic, often anthemic lyrics. Chas Turner
