Barnes & Noble An old-fashioned movie romance dressed up with contemporary attitudes and an ironic twist, Bounce is a pleasant starring vehicle for its glamorous young stars, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Affleck. Shes a recently widowed mom, toiling in the commercial real-estate market to put bread on the table. Hes a brash, callow salesman who purchases a property from her and uses the business transaction as an excuse to date her. But Ben has a guilty secret: He switched airline tickets with Gwyneths husband, who died in Bens assigned seat when the plane crashed. Trying to put a fresh spin on that rather hoary plot complication mightve undone a lesser filmmaker, but writer-director Don Roos (The Opposite of Sex) reveals himself more than equal to the challenge. He handles hokey situations in a disarmingly offhanded way and is further aided by Paltrow and Affleck, former off-screen lovers, whose obvious chemistry coats the whole enterprise with a patina of believability. As a result, Bounce is almost guaranteed to draw tears from all but the most cynical viewers. The DVD adds audio commentaries by Roos, Paltrow, Affleck, and producer Bobby Cohen; it also includes deleted scenes and bloopers.
