Barnes & Noble Since U.S. Marine-turned-character actor R. Lee Ermey is best known for his explosive portrayal of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubricks Full Metal Jacket, one could be forgiven for thinking that Mail Call, his cable TV series, is an experiment in viewer degradation. That is, until you realize its on The History Channel, and his finger-pointing exhortations of "maggot" are just part of the act, one that makes this informational series on military hardware a bit more of a romp than one might expect. Ermey and his unit enlist the help of various experts to help demystify the wonders of war and peacekeeping, with segments suggested by viewers letters and emails. This first DVD from the series offers 175 minutes comprising Mail Calls finest moments from Season 1, including: "Knights Armor to Land Mines"; "Body Armor to WWI Pilots"; "Cannoneers to Clearing Minefields"; "Grenades to Tunnel Rats"; "Grenade Launchers to Jet Packs"; "Bazookas to the 21 Gun Salute"; and "Coast Guard Ships to WWII V-Mail."
