The second season of Norman Lears socially (and comically) progressive sitcom All in the Family adds further meat to the series narrative bone, as it continues to flesh out some of televisions most unforgettable characters. Archie (Carroll OConnor), Edith (Jean Stapleton), Mike (Rob Reiner), and Gloria (Sally Struthers) muddle through such hot-button issues as racism, communism, impotence, and gentrification as the show fuses comedy and conscience, somehow finding the perfect balance. The highlight of AITFs sophomore season is undoubtedly "Sammys Visit," wherein Sammy Davis Jr. journeys to Queens to recover a lost briefcase and encounters Archie in all his bigoted glory. This three-disc set includes all 24 episodes from the shows second season in original broadcast order. It is a must for both diehard fans and those unfortunate few whove yet to discover one of TVs most endearing tragicomedies. "The Saga of Cousin Oscar": Archie is incensed when his sponging cousin Oscar has the nerve to drop dead in the upstairs bedroom. "Gloria Poses in the Nude": Mike has second thoughts after he agrees to let Gloria pose as a nude model for one of his friends. "Archie in the Lock-Up": Archie suffers the ultimate indignity when hes arrested along with a group of radicals at a protest rally. "The Blockbuster": An unscrupulous black real estate salesman tempts Archie to sell his house to a black family at an inflated profit. "Mikes Problem": Gloria is upset when Mikes nervousness over his grades causes him to become temporarily impotent. "The Insurance Is Cancelled": Archie lays off a Puerto Rican worker during a cutback at the dock. Meanwhile Archies homeowners policy is canceled when his neighborhood is redlined as a bad risk. "The Man in the Street": Archie becomes the voice of the American workingman when his man-on-the-street interview is scheduled to appear on Walter Cronkites Evening News. "Cousin Maudes Visit": Ediths feisty cousin Maude drops in for a visit during a flu epidemic at the Bunker house.
