Barnes & Noble At Season 3’s close, super-spy Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) had just stumbled upon a top-secret cache of documents that detailed her entire lifes history, all of which seemed to have been masterminded by her father, Jack (Victor Garber); Vaughn (Michael Vartan) had just shot and killed his double-agent wife, Lauren (Melissa George); and the criminal Sloane (Ron Rifkin) had convinced his daughter, Nadia (Mia Maestro) to help him find a mysterious artifact in China. But once Season 4 opens with the two-part "Authorized Personnel Only," fans can forget everything that happened last year, because Alias reinvents itself for the 2003-4 season. Suspend your disbelief a bit, since Syd is now a part of the covert group APO, a black-ops section of the CIA, joined by Vaughn, Jack, Marshall (Kevin Weisman), Dixon (Carl Lumbly), and new team member Nadia, Syds half sister. Most disconcerting to Syd is the appearance of her nemesis, Sloane -- whos now in charge of APO. And we learn that even though viewers got to see some of what was written in the documents Syd found, they actually divulged the fact that Jack got permission for and carried out the execution of his wife and Syds mother, Irina Derevko (Lena Olin). Or did he? This revelation sets up a season-long story arc that features the introduction of a third Derevko sister, Elena (Sonia Braga), and the return of Irina in the episode "The Descent." Season 4 of Alias offers the usual covert operations, butt-kicking, and jaw-dropping disguises weve come to expect, in episodes such as "The Awful Truth," "Detente," and the fantastic "Tuesday." But a new threat emerges this season beginning in "Nightingale," in which a strange device can alter human DNA, and ends with the near-destruction of a Russian town in the two-part season-ender, "Search and Rescue"/"Before the Flood." And dont blink during the last moments of the finale, in which a conversation between Vaughn and Syd ends on an explosive note -- literally. It has a brilliant cast and an amazing writing team. Every week is captivating. Season 4 includes some great episodes like Tuesday and Search and Rescue. The best moment of all is the return of Irina Derevko! Alias will always be the best show ever. Also Recommended: Alias seasons 1-3Kristy, a former Alias fanatic., September 30, 2005 Am I the only one who actually WATCHED season 4?!Season 4 was the WORST season of Alias thus far. Its too much. The alleged "plot twists" had already been done. It was way too predictable, until the season finale (which wasnt good enough to save the entire crummy season). There was no chemistry between Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan (understandable), but it was painful to watch them try to be in love anyway. My advice--stick with seasons 1 and 2, back when the show was actually something worth watching. Also Recommended: Alias season 1, 2 Lost season 1 Gilmore Girls (all seasons) House season 1.Leah, a professional student: -) JK!, September 29, 2005 Great season! This season has great cliff hangers! I dont care what others say, this was a great season. Just when it finally looks like Syd and Mike are finally gonna get together BAMM, hit by a car! Crazy, cant wait for season 5!Also Recommended: Alias: 1-3, Charmed: 1-2, Couplings: 1-3A reviewer, A reviewer, September 26, 2005 Meh, okAlias is overall a very good series, but this season you can tell that it sort of lost its touch. It didnt really have any heart-pounding action until much later on, and major twists seemed kind of desperately thrown in. But still, pretty good. Did have a good cliffhanger ending, though.
