Everyone loves "greatest ever" lists, and this two-hour movie marathon is likely to satisfy the appetite of even the most rabid movie buff. The American Film Institute asked a group of filmmakers, historians, critics, and leaders in the industry to consider the "craft" and "legacy" of more than 500 screen stars whose careers began 1950 or before, and, out of them, pick 25 men and 25 women as "Americas Greatest Screen Legends." Hosted by Shirley Temple Black, AFIs 100 Years/100 Stars is a non-stop barrage of classic film clips of the chosen actors -- the same winning format that made Thats Entertainment a hit. Along the way are interviews with 50 contemporary screen superstars who give their impressions of these American cinema icons. Theres plenty of hero worship here, and toward the end, emotions begin to peak, as Bridget Fonda is moved to tears talking about Jimmy Stewart (ranked No. 3 in the list), while Sharon Stone sheds a few tears of her own over Katharine Hepburn (No. 1). Originally broadcast on CBS on June 15, 1999, AFIs 100 Years/100 Stars is Hollywood hyperbole at its finest -- and on DVD you get it without the commercial interruptions. Gregory Baird
