Barnes & Noble In recent years, very few dramatic shows have captured the public fancy like 24, the televised equivalent of those old cliff-hanger movie serials that left their protagonists in life-threatening situations at the end of every installment. Having established itself previously with two superb seasons -- each telling a story that unfolds over a single day in one-hour increments -- the show began its third year with an even more ambitious story line. This time around, Counter Terrorism Unit agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) succumbs to the demands of narco-terrorists and breaks drug lord Ramon Salazar (Joachim De Almeida) out of prison to prevent the use of a biological weapon unwittingly smuggled into Los Angeles by one of Salazars mules. As if that wasnt enough, President David Palmer (Dennis Haysbert), facing a tough reelection campaign, learns that his new lover may be implicated in an extortion plot. There are numerous subplots, one of which revolves around Bauers trouble-prone daughter, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert), now working at CTU. Overall, the third season is marginally less satisfying than its predecessors, but only because the various parallel narratives are watered down with too many extraneous diversions. It still makes gripping entertainment, though, and theres no shortage of physical action and nail-biting suspense along with the political intrigue. The seven-disc collection will likely make history for one of the supplements: a ten-minute "prequel" to Season 4 that introduces new characters and bridges the between-seasons continuity gap. Primarily, it reveals that Bauer is transferred out of CTU, setting up his adversarial relationship with the units new chief. This little back-story is unique to the DVD box; the footage was shot with the collection in mind and wont be seen on air. Canadian actors make an effort. Keifer works for his paycheck way more than Ben Affleck ever did in Paycheck. I dont know why we dont get the credit we deserve if only on effort and motivation alone. The Americans in the series are too dull for words. The Canadians and Mexicans are incredible and you never get bored. Also Recommended: OZ-TV series The Shield -TV series The Sapranos- TV seriesMaxx Gearhart (maxxwellgearhart@hotmail.com), A Fan And A Tv Student From Indiana, January 1, 2005 You Love 24 Well you Aint Seen Nothing YetYou Love Season 1&2 of 24 well heres season 3 The Thrilling Action Packed 6 DVD Set will Burn a hole in your pocket if you havent seen this action you havent seen nothing yet Season 4 Starts January 9th at 8:00pm on Your Local Station. Also Recommended: 24 season 1, 24 season 2, buffy the vampire slayer season 1 &5.Jen (jenfrombrooklyn@aol.com), A reviewer, December 10, 2004 Totally AddictedI have to agree that I have been totally addicted to 24 since the first episode of season 1.
