The first season of 24 was a bold experiment: Would viewers return week after week to watch a single day unfold in real time, hour by nail-biting hour? You bet. The show gained a rabid cult following and earned Kiefer Sutherland a Golden Globe for his gripping portrayal of counterterrorist agent Jack Bauer. Season 2 proved that 24s conceit could survive the first years novelty. It offers more cliff-hangers than a Roadrunner cartoon, with twists and turns as explosive as the central storyline: a nuclear device that threatens to destroy Los Angeles. Still ravaged by the murder of his wife in the shocking first-season finale, Jack himself is a ticking time bomb when President David Palmer makes him an offer he cant refuse: Hes got (surprise!) 24 hours to infiltrate the terrorists who planted the nuke and save the day. Once again, the beleaguered Bauer must also come to the rescue of his teenage daughter, Kim, whos on the lam from an abusive home with the child she was hired to nanny. But while Jacks no stranger to juggling family and government crises, his M.O. has grown decidedly darker; in the very first episode, he commits an act of violence that would have been unthinkable in Season 1. Theres also a glimmer of light as lawyer Kate Warner (Sarah Wynter) catches Jacks eye. But its adrenaline jolts, not romantic sparks, that may tempt you to view every episode in a back-to-back 24 marathon. Kiefer Sutherland, as always, maintains his charisma and energy as Federal Agent Jack Bauer. Thank goodness Elisha Cuthbert as Kim Bauer is playing a more mature girl--she was such an unbelievable ditz in Season One and sometimes just plain immature! Watch out for Season Three! Also Recommended: 24: Season OneA reviewer, a student that loves 24, January 5, 2004 i luv iti always wach 24 and was so glad that they made a DVD because i had to miss it sometimesAlso Recommended: 24 seosons 1Matthew, huge fan of 24 and CIA type shows, October 6, 2003 YOU WANT MORE THAN 24 HOURS!This second season goes above and beyond the first season. Jack is tested like he has never been tested before.
